Activities

Advisory is supposed to be fun! Here are some of the recurring activities we will do together:
  • Student Led Advisory-Once a semester students lead a one hour class in an activity of their choosing. Students should choose something that they love to do, compose a lesson plan, and let their passion show.
  • Whose Song Is That Anyway?-This activity involves advisees picking a meaningful song every quarter. Andy will then play the song for the class and students will take a guess at who chose that song. The chooser of that song will then reveal themselves and share why the song is meaningful.
  • Whose Quote is That Anyway?-This activity involves advisees picking a meaningful quote. Andy then reads the quotes and students take a guess at who chose that quote. The chooser of that quote will then reveal themselves and share why the quote is meaningful.
  • Goal Setting-At the beginning of each quarter advisees will write down goals for the remainder of the quarter related to school and their personal lives.
  • Combined Goal Guide-At the beginning of the year students will make several goals related to their future. These goals are required by the state of Colorado and must be kept by the student to be later entered into a computer program.
  • Two Truths and a Lie-Students will anonymously share two truths and one lie related to their own lives. Andy will then read the three statements for the class and students will take a guess at who wrote the statements. The writer of the statements will then reveal themselves and explain his/her statements.

  • Credit Count-This google spreadsheet will help you keep track of your credits for graduation and getting into college.
  • Website Scavenger Hunt-Students answer questions in a scavenger hunt of stephensteach.com in an effort to familiarize themselves with the resource.
  • Equity Check In-Students talk about their experiences or observations with the -isms chosen every year by the equity committee. In 2011-12 the three isms are ageism, linguicism, and sexism.
  • Salad Bowl-Students form two teams. Each team writes down 10 nouns (no proper nouns), puts them in a hat, and mixes them up. A representative from each team comes to the hat. The first player pulls a noun from the hat and plays taboo with their team. Each team goes until all the nouns are pulled out. Points are tallied. The second round turns into shirades and the third round turns into one word taboo. The team with the most points wins.
