California State University Northridge

I completed my California secondary science credential in May of 2006 and MA in Science Education in May of 2008 at California State University, Northridge (CSUN).  My completed coursework included Computers in Education, Methods of Teaching Science, Student Teaching in Science Education, Research in Science Education, Issues in Science Education, Science Website Development, Research in Teaching Science, Computers in Science Teaching, Seminar in Science Education, Advanced Laboratory Development, and Comprehensive Studies in Science Education.

My master's thesis examined the effects of fieldwork on achievement and motivation in the secondary science classroom.  The two year study examined a class of oceanography students, physics students, and the Mean Green Team (an environmental science club at CALS Early College High School.

My results will be published through CSUN in 2010 and I presented the research at the annual National Science Teachers' Association conference in New Orleans in the Spring of 2009.  My thesis and presentation appear below.

At CSUN my advisor was Dr. Mike Rivas and the department head was Dr. Norm Herr. My other professors included Dr. Ken Berry and Dr. Brian Foley.  My claim to fame at Northridge was that my review of Dr. Herr's Sourcebook for Teaching Science appeared on the back cover of the book.
